Campaign StatusAs of September 30, 2008 PROGRESS TO DATE The Archdiocese's major fund-raising campaign marks its first anniversary this week. Parishioners have responded well in this first year, with over 1,400 pledges or donations having been received. Results stand at £1.5 million donated or pledged. The pledges received now represent about 18% of families who attend Sunday Mass regularly in the diocese. Commenting on the results to date in his recent pastoral letter, Archbishop Peter thanked all those parishioners who had already made donations or pledges. He also noted: “This kind of Campaign is new to us all and so we need to be reminded of its purpose and progress on a regular basis.” Renewed Message As a result, earlier this month the Archdiocese launched a renewed Campaign message, based on a series of posters designed by pupils in our Catholic schools and stressing the Campaign's main goal: to provide support for our sick and retired clergy. Each of these award-winning posters will be printed and distributed to all parishes in the Archdiocese, one every 2-3 months, to be posted in the churches and parish halls where they will serve as ongoing reminders of this important project. Pupils Receive Awards for Best Posters The Poster Design Competition held during June and July was highly successful, with over 300 poster designs being submitted. A panel of independent judges selected the best 20 posters, ten from primary school pupils and ten from secondary school students. Last Monday evening, September 29, the winners, in the presence of parents and teachers, were presented with certificates and prizes to recognize their important contribution. Further information on this event, including pictures, will be posted shortly on the “NEWS” section of this website. Looking Ahead The success of the Campaign is measured by the number of pledges or donations received, not by their value. The goal is to have at least 60% of families participate in the Campaign. As Archbishop Peter said in his pastoral letter, “With nearly 8,000 families in the Archdiocese, it is clear that many people have not yet participated in this important project. We also need to remind everyone that new donations or pledges are still welcome and very much needed.” If you have not yet made a commitment to this important fund-raising project, why not do so now? Brochures and Pledge Cards are available from your Parish Campaign Leader or can be downloaded from this website.SUMMARY OF RESULTS
